I find it amazing that after many years of research we still can’t prescribe exercise to reduce injury rates in our elite athletes.

One argument for the increase in abdominal strains in these athletes could be the use of the plank exercise and its variations. In its basic form, the plank exercise does not allow rotation thereby not taking the body through its full range of movement.

There are alternative exercises to the plank including anti-rotation exercises and anti-flexion exercises.
