DVA Referrals for Exercise in Canberra

Gold and White Card holders. Fully funded. No out-of-pocket cost.

Most veterans we see have been told two things about exercise, rest it, or push through it.

Neither one worked.

We're an Accredited Exercise Physiology practice in Weetangera. You bring a D904 referral from your GP, and we build the program around what your body can actually do — not what it used to do.

Who We See

Three reasons veterans walk through our door

Chronic Pain

Back, knees, shoulders, hips — the stuff that's been there for years and nobody's fixed. We work out what you can do without flaring it, then build from there.

PTSD & Mental Health

Structured exercise is one of the few things with genuine evidence behind it for mental health. We keep it simple, predictable, and in a private clinic — not a busy gym floor.

Getting Back to Moving

After surgery, after a hospital stay, or after a few years of not much at all. Small steps that hold, rather than a big push that doesn't.

How It Works

Four steps, and your GP does most of the paperwork

STEP 01

Work out what you want back

Walking the dog without stopping. Getting off the floor unassisted. Sleeping through the night. Tell us the thing — we build backwards from it.

STEP 02

See your GP for a D904

Ask for a referral to Accelr8 Rehab for Exercise Physiology. Your GP fills out the D904 form. Takes a few minutes in a standard appointment.

STEP 03

Book a chat with us

Private clinic in Weetangera, Belconnen. Free parking. We'll talk through where you're at before anyone does any exercise.

STEP 04

Come in at your pace

Weekly, fortnightly or monthly — whatever suits. Each referral covers up to 12 sessions, and your GP can start a new cycle after that.

What DVA Covers

Your card, and what it actually pays for

Veteran Gold Card

Clinically necessary exercise physiology for any health condition. Accepted as full payment with a valid GP referral.

Veteran White Card

Clinically necessary exercise physiology for your accepted service-related conditions. Accepted as full payment with a valid GP referral.

How the treatment cycle works

Each referral runs as a treatment cycle: up to 12 sessions or 12 months, whichever comes first. Your GP writes a new referral when the cycle ends. There's no limit on the number of cycles you can have.

Worth knowing

DVA doesn't fund gym memberships or general exercise outside your sessions. But if a gym or pool is part of your treatment plan, you won't pay access fees for it.

If you hold a TPI Gold Card, the treatment cycle limits don't apply to exercise physiology — your referral just needs to stay clinically appropriate.

Why Us

A private clinic, not a gym floor

Sixteen years in Weetangera. Accredited with ESSA and registered with Services Australia — which is what DVA requires before they'll fund anything.

Two treatment rooms and a gym space, so you're not training in front of an audience. One-on-one is standard. Small groups if you'd prefer the company.

We also do remedial massage alongside the exercise physiology. Most places do one or the other. Doing both under one roof means the hands-on work and the strength work actually talk to each other — which for chronic pain matters more than people realise.

Fair warning: we usually run three to four weeks out for new clients. Worth getting your GP referral moving sooner rather than later.

Common Questions

The things veterans ask us first

Do I need a referral?
Yes. DVA requires one from your GP, a medical specialist, a treating doctor in hospital, or a hospital discharge planner. For most veterans it's the GP and the D904 form.
What will it cost me?
Nothing. Your Gold or White Card covers the full cost when your referral is valid.
How many sessions do I get?
Up to 12 per referral, or 12 months — whichever ends first. Then your GP writes another one. There's no limit on how many cycles you can have.
Do I have to exercise in front of other people?
No. One-on-one is standard. Small groups are available if you'd prefer the company.
I haven't exercised in years. Is that a problem?
No. That's most of who we see. We start from where you are, not where you think you should be.
